How to Write a Resume to Get the Interview

Now-a-days it is a competitive job-seeking environment. Job seekers needresume to make sure that their resume stands out from the pack. Read over the following “tips and tidbits” to help you stand out from the crowd and to give your resume the competitive edge it needs to land you an interview for your “dream job.”

Presentation is Everything:

When writing a resume it’s important to use a basic font that is easy to read. Try using Times New Roman or Calibri in a size 12 font. You do not want your resume to be “too busy” with different fonts or to be too “wordy”. Before sending it have a close friend or family member read over to double check that it is easy on the eyes and that it is grammatically perfect.

Past Employment:

When writing your resume, be sure you put your experience in chronological order. You always want the most current job first. Also, do not lie about dates of employment. Employers can check and make sure the date you gave them are accurate. Lastly, do not leave off any employment information. Recruiters and employers do not like seeing “gaps” in your employment history.

Contact Information:

It’s important to include all your contact information so employers can easily get in touch with you. This information should be located on the top of your resume. This information should be in a larger font from the rest of the resume to make it stand out.   You should include your full name, street address, city, state, and zip, home phone number, cell phone number, and email address. MAKE SURE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS CORRECT. When you apply for a job you want to make yourself readily available within the weeks that follow. Recruiters will not chase after applicants.


Your resume should include the same keywords that appear in job descriptions. This will increase chances of your resume matching available positions. If you take the time to customize your resume to the job description it will be well worth it.
